Send picture text messages with your iPhone
February 21, 2008

Want to send picture Text messages from your iPhone? well a service called pktpix lets you do that with either your iPhone, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry or any other with Internet capabilities.
Simply pick the photo you want to send as an email, enter your friends phone number, followed by @pktpix.com and send your message.
I’ve looked through the website for a cost on this service but it doesn’t give one, but also it doesn’t say it’s free, I checked the FAQ’s on the site to make sure that your friends do not get spammed with ads, and it states quite categorically that they don’t. For more information on the service visit pktpix. I gave it a try with my iPhone and it worked fine.

Twitxr is like Twitter but with pictures and geolocalization. The idea is, you take a picture with your iPhone or other mobile device, you write something related to the picture and this picture gets posted on the Twitxr site for your followers to view.
The photo will also then be posted as a link into your twitter stream and onto your facebook account as well.
With a Jailbroken iPhone you can use the client, which can be easily installed through installer.app, you should find it under the networks tab.

They are currently working on other mobile platforms such as the Symbian and Android, and the API is public so anyone can develop a client.

Skype to Support Voice and Video Calls on Intel Mobile Devices
January 25, 2008

At the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, Skype announced its plans to collaborate with Intel Corporation to develop a new mobile Skype™ experience for Mobile Internet Devices (MID) based on Intel low-power processors and chipsets. MIDs are a new category of small, truly mobile consumer devices enabling a PC-like Internet experience, coupled with the capability to communicate with others, enjoy entertainment, and access information on the go.
The collaboration builds on the ease of use of Skype software and makes that experience mobile. MID users will be able to make Skype voice and video calls and send instant messages on the move, while harnessing the performance of Intel’s new ultra-mobile platform. MID devices with WiMAX and WiFi capabilities will enable free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls and cheap SkypeOut™ calls – calls from Skype to landline and mobile phone numbers anywhere in the world at low per-minute rates – to be made on open wireless networks.
“Many of the more than 246 million Skype users around the world are increasingly mobile and want to stay connected on the go,” said Gareth O’Loughlin, Skype’s general manager of mobile and hardware devices. “Making the richer Skype experience available on mobile devices partly hinges on the need for more processing power, which in turn tends to shorten battery life. Intel’s focus on lowering power consumption helps us minimize that conundrum, underscoring our evolution beyond the desktop. And it‘s good news to anyone who has found themselves missing Skype on the road.”
Skype will enable its software to run on the small, thin and light ultra-mobile MID devices with touch-screen LCDs, which are powered by Mobile Internet Linux. With the performance offered by Intel’s low-power processors and chipsets, some MID devices will even support mobile video calls over Skype.
“The emergence of Mobile Internet Devices represents an exciting new user experience,” said Pankaj Kedia, Director of Global Ecosystem Programs for the Ultra-Mobility Group at Intel Corporation. “Intel’s low-power technologies, combined with Skype’s optimized software, will enable MID users to easily stay in touch with their family and friends wherever they go.”
Skype is working with Intel to deliver its application software on the Mobile Internet Linux platform through Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). By bundling the Skype software on their devices, consumer electronics manufacturers can provide consumers with a rich internet communications experience – instant messaging, group chat, voice and video calls – right out of the box.
The first implementation of the Skype software for Mobile Internet Linux on Intel-based MID products is expected to be made available during the first half of 2008.

MoFuse gets an update
January 15, 2008

Mofuse, the people who allow content publishers to create RSS driven mobile sites have announced some new updates designed to give the user more power and control.
Here’s the full list of new features now available taken from Mofuse
Automatic Image Resizing
If you have any images in your RSS feed or on your static pages that is greater than 150 pixels wide, MoFuse will automatically resize the image and make it smaller to be better viewed on a mobile screen!
Note: You can turn this feature off under the Settings tab on your mobile site dashboard
Mobile Site Homepage
Now all MoFuse users can edit their mobile site homepage and add text. MoFuse professional users can add images, text-styling and links to this page using our WYSIWYG page editor!
This can be used for a welcome message or you can just create a mobile site with just a homepage full of anything you want without making users click on a menu link! You can also set this to be displayed on every page if you wish.
Outbound Links
Before you could only add 2 things to your mobile site menu, a static page and an RSS feed. Now you can add any link to anywhere on the web!
If the site you’re linking to isn’t mobile-friendly – they have partnered with Mowser, a mobile transcoding company, to ensure that every link on every MoFuse mobile site is now mobile-friendly (more to come on this partnership later). So go ahead – link away! The entire web is now mobile-friendly and you can link to it all!
QR Codes
We’ve had a QR Code generator for a while now located at http://qrcode.mofuse.com/ but it was never actually integrated with MoFuse mobile sites, until now. Now every MoFuse mobile site is automatically given a QR Code that all of our users can access right from their mobile site dashboard!
Increased Branding – The SMS Widget (MoFuse Professional)
Professional users that make use of our SMS widget will notice that the MoFuse logo has been removed from the popup box and has been replaced with your mobile site’s logo! Now your users really won’t even know you’re using a third-party for your mobile site!
Full branding from start to finish for MoFuse Professional accounts!
Live Support
We’ve added a button to our Help and Support page for Live Support chat. If you got an urgent question, check our Help and Support page and see if a member of our support team is online and available to help you instantly!
