Invite your Gmail Contacts
If you’d like to see more of your contacts in Second Brain, we’ve created a simple way for you to invite your Gmail contacts. Just go to you personal page and select your contacts. You can also import contacts from Outlook and other applications that support .CSV files

Edit S|B bookmarks
Edit the title, description and tags of bookmarks that you’ve added directly to Second Brain. Just click on the bookmark to go to the bookmark page and select the field that you’d like to edit.

Improved bookmarklets
When you add a bookmark you can now put it directly into a collection. This makes it really easy to use collections to organise your content. You can also add a description to a bookmark automatically by selecting text on the page you’re bookmarking.

Wordpress gets a Buddy

March 5, 2008

Buddypress

Automattic, the brains behind wordpress have snapped up the services of Andy Peatling and his BuddyPress plugins.

At the moment a place holder is all that we can see at the BuddyPress site, but Andy on his blog says…

I’ve been all consumed in WordPress for the past two years now, I think almost every single site I’ve built since working as a freelancer has used WordPress in some way. To get the opportunity to concentrate fully on WordPress everyday, and also the chance to help mould WordPress in new ways is a fantastic one not to be missed.

Also, the buddypress.com domain is in the process of being moved, so further updates on the project will be available there once the move has been completed.

BuddyPress is a series of plug-ins that turns your Wordpress installation into a Social Network, Automattic have already indicated that they would like to dip their toe into world of Social Networking so this acquisition makes sense to them.

Tiny Polls for Twitter

February 22, 2008

A new service called StrawPoll has been introduced created by Rob Goodlatte & Dan Romero

Explanation of the service from Rob Goodlatte

Today I’m pleased to introduce StrawPoll, a tiny polling application for Twitter. The premise is simple: each day, we ask an interesting question. Reply to strawpoll and tell us why you voted the way you did. StrawPoll tallies the votes and displays the most recent reasons for each response. To get started, all you need to do is sign into Twitter and start following strawpoll.

For example, today’s question is “Better superpower: flight (1) or invisibility (2)?”. To answer, simply reply to @strawpoll with a message like:

@strawpoll flight because you could travel anywhere for free

Your reply must be formatted like “@strawpoll <vote> <reason>”, where is one word or number, and your reason can be as long as you’d like (less than 140 characters of course).

Let Twitter help you stop smoking

February 14, 2008

Qwitter

Tobacco Free Florida has built a Twitter powered social tool designed to help people quit smoking.

Each time you light up, send Qwitter the number of cigarettes you smoked by posting an update to twitter in the following format @iquit 2

That will tell Qwitter you just smoked 2 cigarettes and at the end of every day Qwitter will add together all the posts you sent and add them to your progress graph.

You can keep track of your thoughts and feelings as you stop smoking. Send Qwitter a message that doesn’t start with a number, and Qwitter will add it to your journal.

@iquit I really want a smoke. I hope this gets easier.

You can visit your Qwitter page at http://qwitter.tobaccofreeflorida.com/qwitters/username to view your trend over time.
